Camp in style and comfort - uniquely - and like never before!
One Sunday, last year, I was driving down a back country road in Northern CA and spotted an old truck peeking out from behind a big old red barn. It turned out to be a 1947 Chevy livestock hauler and you guessed it - I had to make her mine. After diligently working at making the farmer warm up to me - we struck a deal. The journey began and Ol’ Bessie (fondly named by the farmer decades before) came to rest at my little tree farm in McCloud, CA. Surrounded by pristine waterfall hikes, crystal clear lakes, blue-ribbon trout fishing, and of course - the back drop of Mt. Shasta - it seemed like the perfect place for Bessie to come to enjoy some quiet time for her final years in retirement.
Ol’ Bessie - being the worker and social butterfly that she is - soon realized that she was not ready for retirement and begged for a new position on the farm. We put our heads together and came up with the perfect position for her. Bessie is now back in service as our “welcome wagon” of sorts - the perfect retirement job for her. I have converted the rear “bed” area into just that - a comfortable, open aired glamping bedroom. From her one of a kind patinated cab to the original, seasoned weathered side slats - she proudly shows her wear from work and weather. However, her new floor, memory foam mattress, LED Edison market lights, and fully wrap-around linen curtains - make your experience comfortable and modern. Ol’ Bessie is positioned with the bedroom facing Mt. Shasta for a view to wake up to like no other. She is also parked adjacent to a one of a kind repurposed “old mill guard shack” which I use for operations at the farm when Ol’ Bessie is not welcoming/entertaining new guests.
Off the grid accommodations…
The shack sports 400 watts of solar with a 1500 watt inverter to power the bluetooth stereo, lights, and a small TV with DVD player. Your phones and laptops are easily charged as well on this system. There is a wonderful above-ground fire pit and wood is provided for you to enjoy your evening by the fire with s’mores or your favorite bottle of wine.
Camping taken to the next level…
With a fifty foot walk through my little Christmas trees you will arrive at my favorite part of the entire experience (other than fishing or napping in the hammock) - a custom built HOT outdoor shower! Yep - a private - fully enclosed - hot shower for you only. Adjacent to the shower is a kitchen and two BBQs for grilling your favorite meals. There are also three full sized picnic tables for your connivence and a hot water kitchen sink for clean up.
This spot is perfect for one couple on a romantic getaway or bring the kids and they can pitch their tent on the deck of the shack. My farm is located on a private 285 acre parcel which was the Old Saw Mill of McCloud. It employed the town of McCloud from the 1880’s through the late 1990’s. The property boarders open BLM land with trails and creeks for you to explore at your leisure. Bring the bikes and boots and get at it!
This space is also ideal for larger groups who don’t mind making camp just about anywhere on the farm and enjoying the amenities. Larger groups - please inquire via email to discuss pricing and options.
As you can imaging - this will fill up very quickly for the 2019 Spring, Summer and Fall so email us asap to reserve your spot.
Nightly rate is $125 (two night min.) for Friday, Saturday, Sunday Nights OR $100 a night for Monday-Thursday nights. $100 Damage deposit. Nightly rate is for two adults and two children max. No cleaning fee if you leave the space as you found it. Otherwise - there is a $1000 cleaning fee. :)
Additional rates apply for more children. I am a huge dog lover, however - we do not allow pets due to the fact that the farm is an operational nursery and dog’s like to pee on everything!
